Our proposal for the architectural design competition, initiated by Torbalı Municipality, aims to create a seamless and unified setting. The intention is to perceive the project area as a whole and blur the barrier created by the İzban line in people's minds. For this purpose, buildings with simple geometric forms that could be considered "alien" to the city have been designed on both sides.
The Council Chamber: After analyzing the usage of municipal council chambers, we discovered that these spaces often remain inactive on non-meeting days. To make the best use of the council chamber, we suggest relocating it from the municipal building to the center of the project area. On non-meeting days, this space can be utilized as a public stage and exhibition area.
The Municipal Building: Our design adheres to decisions made in the site plan, a transparent layout for the ground and first floors. This approach ensures a sense of continuity on the ground level, giving the impression of a floating mass that blurs the boundaries of the building. The entrance to the municipal building faces the council building, creating a seamless transition and a continuous public area between the two structures.
The New City Square: Designed as a park for Torbalı's residents, aims to provide a tranquil green space for relaxation. To create a visual focal point, we have elevated the council building, transforming the ground floor into a semi-open gathering area.
The Market Area: The projection of the market roof is carefully chosen within the orthogonal grid, considering the supporting system of the underground parking. The front side of the roof facing the council and the new city center is designed to complement the council building and the adjacent park.
Multi-Story Parking: With a capacity of 194 vehicles, the parking structure is conceived as a cylinder, ensuring a visual continuity with the simple geometric forms of the council and municipal buildings on the other side of the İzban line. The ramp's slope is calculated at 6%, and both vehicle circulation and parking areas are efficiently planned on the same ramp.
